This was a tough rally but I am very happy to win. We were driving carefully this afternoon because we wanted to keep our position after Yuriy retired. On today’s second stage, we caught Yuriy during the last five kilometres and it was very difficult to pass him so we lost quite a bit of time. We tried to improve our pacenotes this afternoon as we hope to be back next year but right now I can’t believe I have won, it feels fantastic.

It feels great to be leading in 2WD and in the IRC Production Cup, especially after using the same front two tyres for both loops. It’s a difficult rally and hard to know whether to take some of the cuts or to try and drive round them: you can either risk a puncture or end up in the trees! Tomorrow is another long day so we will drive at a steady pace and hope we can keep our position.

Everything has gone reasonably well for me today and I am very happy to be in this position. We had a puncture on the Plato 1 test and then again on Plato 2 this afternoon but we were able to get back to number one position so it was not too much of a problem. We will not push tomorrow, it will be a long day and my main target is to finish the rally.

We’ve only had two short stages today but now we must concentrate on keeping Yuriy behind us tomorrow. The first part of the second stage was very slippery and had a lot of hairpins. It was the first time I haven driven tight hairpins in this car so that was a new learning experience for me. I’m feeling very comfortable in the car but there are still a lot of new things to learn so I need to be careful tomorrow.
